My Nanny, Your Nanny, Our Nanny by Chris Herrick (my Brother)

My Nanny
Your Nanny
Our Nanny

People that didn’t love Nanny, didn’t know Nanny.

She was not bias,
She loved us all
When in need
She answered the call

I loved her dearly
And so did you
It was the Lords will
Nothing we could do

She kept us clothed
She kept us feed
She was there,
To tuck us in bed

If you entered her house
She called you her own
In discipline and love,
She would let it be known

She made a home,
A foundation of love
Walls of understanding
A comfort roof from above

Her hands made meals
Her hands caressed
A simple touch,
That made you feel blessed

Her hands had love
And gave warmth
Her hands pressed clothes,
Ready to be worn

She was the love of our lives
Supplying our very need
Her heart filled with joy
Not knowing any greed

She was an angel on earth
Here to show us love
In all that she did
She went beyond and above

Though she will be missed
She lives in our hearts
Her memories we will cherish
That will never depart

Memories in our hearts
Will supply her legacy
Her torch has lit ours
And we will carry with longevity

Breakfast with Nanny and Papa by Chris Herrick (my brother)

What’s that smell?

Oh! It’s  Nanny in the kitchen

Biscuits and gravy

That gets all my attention

It’s Saturday morning

I’m hoppin’ out of bed

So I’ll be first in line

Not last instead

I race to the kitchen

Wipe the crust from my eyes

There was plenty to go around

Why was I surprised?

A beautiful angle

She could cook for an army

Keeping up with hungry devils

Wasn’t so alarming

Each precision

And cut with a can

Biscuits already

And placed on a pan

The gravy was creamy

Right on the dime

She never missed a beat

And that was all the time

The oatmeal was ready

As Papa would prepare

With butter and sugar,

Then split up to share

We passed all our plates

As he scraped off of his

With all equal shares

He sometimes gave his

Nanny and Papa

Made breakfast so good

Because the smell went for miles

As they attract the neighborhood

MY FONDEST MEMORY FROM WHEN I WAS LITTLE WAS WHEN I WAS PLAYING WONDER WOMAN, AND DAD CAUGHT ME DIGGING IN NANNY'S PURSE AND GOING THROUGH HER MAKE-UP BAG.  WHEN SHE WALKED INTO THE ROOM I HAD ALREADY PUT ON HER POWDER AND WAS WORKING ON THAT BURGANDY COLOR LIPSTICK SHE ALWAYS WORE.  DAD KEPT SAYING, "NANNY'S GOING TO GET YOU", BUT SHE JUST LAUGHED.  THAT WAS JUST HER WAY.  WE COULD DO NO WRONG.  THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS BEING THERE FOR US AND FOR ALL THE LIFE LESSONS YOU TAUGHT US.

LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU SO MUCH!

SHANNON
